Any business can learn from the no nonsense approach to how you should handle your business insurance. The book is easy to read, and answers questions about buying business insurance that you cannot get anywhere else.
Insurance is confusing and this book takes the mystery out of insurance buying. Being afraid to switch insurance brokers could cost you a lot of money and this book tells you how to get more out of your own broker or how to tell if it is time to switch.
I reconmmend this book to any business that has to purchase insurance.

While the book is primarily introductory, the authors discuss some more advanced topics, including simulation, calculation of risk premiums, credibility theory, estimation of outstanding claim provisions and risk theory. All topics are illustrated by examples drawn from general insurance, and references for further reading are given. Solutions to most of the exercises are included. Corporate Finance: Core Principles and Applications (McGraw-Hill/Irwin Series in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate) Review

Corporate Finance: Core Principles and Applications (McGraw-Hill/Irwin Series in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this item a couple weeks into my Finance course, as I was not satisfied by the answers the book Corporate Finance: Core Applications and Principles w/SAndP bind-in card (McGraw-Hill/Irwin Series in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate) had in the back (a very small % to the number of problems, just listing the final answer, and on top of that many answers were wrong). Also, my professor refused to make available the solutions to the problems outside of those assigned, and for the assigned problems we only received those after the homework was due. This manual was a lifesaver, as it provides answers to all of the end of chapter problems. In addition, it provides step by step instructions on how to arrive at the final answer and includes detailed explanations of the more complicated problems. Being that Finance is a discipline that requires doing many problems in order to completely understand the subject matter, this manual helped me do the extra work necessary to obtain an exceptional grade. I would tell anyone who is assigned the Corporate Finance textbook for a class that the Solutions Manual is a Necessity!

I was recently given a copy of this book for my birthday. At first glance I thought oh, great, another book I'll never look at, but then started leafing through it. It's packed with information on things my husband and I have been recently shopping around for, like a digital camcorder and a new lawnmower. There are loads of tips on how to make the most of your money and things to watch out for. But there's also stuff I never thought of: Hire a body guard, buy bonds, sell your body to science, buy a hourse trailer, sell a used bike?-and it's funny! My husband paws through it before he goes to Home Depot to get a good read on just about everything he needs. There'll be a lot of people getting this book for Christmas.

Two Kafka Plays: Kafka's Dick and the Insurance Man Review

Two Kafka Plays: Kafka's Dick and the Insurance Man
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

The particular text of the two with which I am concerned is "Kafka's Dick." My reading of the text was in conjunction with a directing class production at the local university. At the time the literary vivisectionist aspects of this play touched rather close to home. Quite frankly, I was sick of picking nits and wanted so desperately to just *enjoy* a story. But he daily rape of dead authors in English classes mad that quite impossible. Why they were teaching Chekoslovakian authors in English lit I'll never know.
"Kafka's Dick" deals with just that subject in a rather surreal way. Franz Kafka and his friend and publisher Max Brod are brought back to life in the living room of a literary critic who just happens to be writing on the subject of Franz Kafka. Franz discovers unexpected fame and utter embarrasment at the thought of having his sexual organs bandied about in public. The author is lost in a great sea of literary criticism. The author's work is forgotten or only half remembered:
KAFKA: . . . A beetle.
BROD: Say again?
KAFKA: Not a cockroach. You said cockroach. It was a beetle.
BROD: Will you listen to this man. I make him world famous and he quibbles over entomology.
Franz is himself oblivious to it all:
SYDNEY: . . . What you're saying is he doesn't know he'sKafka.
BROD: He knows he's Kafka. He doesn't know he's KAFKA.
This makes for some truly fine comedy at the expense of authors, critics, publishers, and readers of fine literature. A bit of the humor, however, is a little Kafka-specific (which is to be expected, really). This might make the show suffer from the same intellectual inaccessability that it complains of in the world of literary criticism. Nevertheless, I found the text to be quite amusing having only read the standard required Kafka short stories. This was mostly due to it's truly bizarre nature. The play ends on an odd twist with Kafka in heaven:
(The music swells as GOD and CARMEN MIRANDA dance. Then it fades as KAFKA comes forward to the audience.)
KAFKA: I'll tell you something. Heaven is going to be hell.

At first, I thought this book was for company employees only to find out how to put "quality" into insurance, but I was pleasantly surprised that as an insurance professional myself, I learned a great deal about the importance of quality and ethics in this industry. The authors inject some amusing anecdotes, and make you think in different terms about insurance, and how important customer service is. Read it...you'll learn and laugh at the same time.

How can insurance providers boost their image and increase business? Hedy and Les Abromovitz's Insuring Quality takes a hard look at the insurance industry and suggests innovative new ways of improving customer satisfaction, turbo-charging sales and polishing the tarnished image of the industry. The insurance industry has an image problem. From Woody Allen movies to greeting cards, insurance agents are ridiculed as boring, overbearing pests out to make a quick buck at someone's expense. Recent criminal investigations into some of the nation's largest insurance providers have only made the situation worse. And that's bad news for insurance professionals - for more than any other business, the insurance industry is built on trust. This book was written by insurance professionals for insurance professionals - so every example in the book is based on a real-life situation. There's no ivory tower philosophizing or impenetrable jargon; just practical advice from two veterans who have examined the true relationship between quality, ethics, and customer service. As the authors say, "Insuring Quality will help your organization solve real-life problems. It's for the people in the trenches..."

The book has a lot of detailed historical information about the financial systems. Unfortunatly the author pay too much attention to history and not enough on practical fundementals. There are several errors and steps deleted in the book. Plus not enough examples are provided in comparrison to the problems assigned. Even my professor stated that the 7th edition had plenty of problems that won't be resolved until the 12-13th edition.

Finance: Applications and Theory (McGraw-Hill/Irwin Series in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate)
Average Reviews:

I'm not quite sure where to even begin with how upset I am about this book. I paid roughly $150 for it through Amazon, and it is the required textbook for a graduate level finance class I am taking. Short answer, this book is not ready for use and should not be implemented in any bachelor's or master's course at this time. The editing is horrible and there was no attention to quality assurance. I'm not sure who validated this book, but they did not do their job.
In the very first week of my graduate class, the professor had to email all the students and let us know that the formulas in the book were incorrect and had typos for chapters 1-2. Since then the trend has continued and we are essentially being told to avoid using the book unless it is absolutely necessary. The instructions in our class webpage area now ask the students to only use the PowerPoint presentations for each chapter from the publisher, and to use the interactive online examples for each chapter, which are also from the publisher, but not to bother reading the hardcopy textbook unless we are absolutely uncertain about the material. Essentially, the online files for the PP slides and the interactive quizes are being updated with the corrected information as all the mistakes in the textbook are sent to the publisher. I would return this book to Amazon and request a refund if I could, but I am required to keep a copy until my course is complete. My undergraduate finance textbook, which was on it's 7th edition I think and I was able to buy used for less than $10 is a far superior reference.

As an MD, I read Elizabeth Cohen's book with tears in my eyes. It just tapped into my own sadness that a book like this even needs to be written. Doctors are supposed to be there to help people. We're meant to be a person's advocate. I went to medical school because I'm committed to helping my patients heal. And yet, the system is sorely broken and no band-aid is going to fix these boo boos any time soon. The truth is, this book is vitally necessary. You DO need to understand the system and know how to work it. You can't just sit back and say, "I trust you, Doc." Until things get better (and if I do my job well, maybe they will), this book will help you known how to advocate for yourself and those you love the way I did.
If you want to learn how to take your health care into your own hands, I highly recommend this book! This book teaches you exactly what you need to know in order to get the most value out of your health care dollar, haggle with your insurance company, find Dr. Right and fire Dr. Wrong, pay less for drugs, avoid a misdiagnosis, make the most out of learning from the internet, get your medical questions answered, stay safe in the hospital, avoid falling prey to medical marketing, and learn to be a "bad" patient.
Buy it. You'll love it. You'll read it more than once. You'll tell everyone you know about it. And if you pay attention, I promise you'll get better health care.

This book is for teacher's only. It just has the case study, no solutions. I ordered the item for a research project but the cases are worthless without the solutions. The solutions are available on-line but you have to have a code given to you by a sales representative. I guess this is to keep students away from the solutions but it makes the book worthless to anyone who is not a teacher.

This book set me up very nicely for a career in forex markets. Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. If you want to read just one book about starting a handyman business, this would be the one. I read a diffent book first and had more questions than answers. This book finally answered all of my questions, including many I didn't even know I had.
It's obvious that the author did extensive research. It is extremely detailed, in-depth, and chock full of resources; yet, the writing style flows and is easy to read. He gives a step-by-step process for getting the business started, then guides you on running and growing the business once it's going. He also includes the pitfalls to watch out for each step of the way. This will be a frequent 'go-to' reference book as my business gets up and running.
